US spending USD23 million to train Mongolian Armed Forces mobile training team

As the United States looks to shore up its partnerships with nations within the Indo-Pacific region, its special forces are spending millions of dollars to help build up a Mongolian Armed Forces mobile training team.

During a 10 July media roundtable inside the Pentagon, US Army soldiers from the 1st Special Forces Group discussed their military-to-military efforts inside the Indo-Pacific region at a time when Washington is looking to compete with Russia and China. One example is a USD23 million initiative to train a new Mongolian military team.

"I think the fundamentals remain the same … the most important thing that we do in theatre is long-standing, enduring partnerships there, not just episodic," Colonel Owen Ray, commander of the 1st Special Forces Group, told reporters.
