Procurement of the Patriot air and missile defence system by Romania will include local defence industry participation, under a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Raytheon and state-owned aerospace components manufacturer Romaero.
Romanian Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă described the MOU, agreed on 10 July, as a "basis for industrial collaboration in the Patriot programme". This co-operation is "further proof of the deeper strategic partnership with the United States," she added, "and it consolidates our relationship in the economic and technological domains."
The MOU was signed in Bucharest by Romaero managing director Remus Vulpescu and Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) supply chain director Mike D'Ambrosio in the presence of the Romanian economics and defence ministers.
