India progresses defence industry corridor

09 July 2019

The Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has outlined a series of developments related to its plan to establish a defence industrial corridor in the northern region of Bundelkhand, which lies between the states of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

Citing a parliamentary reply by Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik, the MoD confirmed on 8 July that a newly formed India-Russian joint venture (JV) to produce Kalashnikov rifles is to be located within the region. The MoD also said that the JV will represent one part of expected total investment in the industrial corridor of more than INR37 billion (USD539 million).
