Northrop Grumman has secured an USD82 million contract from the US Air Force (USAF) to facilitate military satellite communications (SATCOM) in the North Polar Region through its Enhanced Polar System Recapitalization (EPS-R) Control and Planning Segment (CAPS) programme, the company announced on 3 July in a press release.
The USAF’s EPS programme is responsible for providing secure, jam-resistant SATCOM coverage to armed forces in the North Polar Region (above 65° north latitude) in support of the country’s strategic objectives.
According to the company, CAPS is a next-generation ground system designed to receive cryptographic and mission planning, and supplies and telemetry configuration commands for the EPS and EPS-R polar-orbiting payloads.
