The Philippine Navy (PN) has decommissioned the PCE 827-class corvette Sultan Kudarat (22) in preparation for the arrival of a Pohang-class vessel that has been donated by South Korea.
Sultan Kudarat has been retired to free up resources and ensure that the navy has sufficient personnel to man its pipeline of incoming ships, including the gifted vessel, said Rear Admiral Giovanni Carlo Bacordo, PN Fleet commander, in a report published by the official Philippine News Agency.
Prior to its decommissioning on 5 July, Sultan Kudarat was one of five PCE 827 corvettes in service with the PN.
