Several people were killed and more than 90 others, including children, injured when Taliban fighters launched an attack against a government building on 1 July in an area of the Afghan capital, Kabul, housing military and government buildings, according to local media reports.
The attack began when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) was detonated during the morning rush hour near a building used by the Afghan Ministry of Defense, said the reports, which put the number of civilians killed as a result of the blast between 3 and 16.
The bomb explosion was reportedly followed by a gun battle between at least three Taliban militants and Afghan security forces that ended with the insurgents being killed.
