Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has agreed to acquire Bombardier’s commercial regional jet business for USD550 million, the two corporations announced on 25 June.
Under the agreement, MHI will acquire the maintenance, support, refurbishment, marketing, and sales activities for Bombardier’s Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ) Series aircraft, including related support centres in Canada and the US.
MHI will also take over USD200 million in liabilities but also acquire Bombardier’s USD180 million interest in a financing programme the Canadian group established to support aircraft leasing.
The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals but is expected to be finalised in the first half of 2020.
