The Royal Australian Navy's (RAN's) last two Adelaide-class (US Oliver Hazard Perry design) guided-missile frigates, HMAS Melbourne (III) and HMAS Newcastle , have returned to Australia from their final overseas deployments, and are set to be decommissioned in the near future.

Melbourne (III) (with pennant number 05) arrived at Gladstone Port in Queensland on 11 June after a three-month-long deployment in the Asia-Pacific region, according to a statement by the Australian Department of Defence (DoD).

The 138.1 m-long vessel, which entered service in February 1992 as the fifth of six ships of the class, is expected to be decommissioned in a ceremony set to be held at Sydney's Garden Island, Fleet Base East, on 26 October.
