China prepares new technology controls

09 June 2019

China is preparing to update national guidelines governing the export of technologies that could pose a risk to national security.

Official state-run news agency Xinhua reported on 8 June that the new guidelines will be drawn up by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), an agency under the State Council.

According to Xinhua , the NDRC has been tasked with organising a study to establish a “national technological security management list system”. Xinhua said the move is according to China’s National Security Law and other regulations, and aims to “more effectively forestall and defuse national security risks”.

Xinhua added that detailed measures will be unveiled in the near future.
