RUSI land warfare conference outlines future adjustments to the British Army

07 June 2019

UK Defence Secretary Penny Mordaunt highlighted her focus for near-term issues to be addressed by the British Army at the RUSI Land Warfare Conference, held in London from 4-5 June.

The newly appointed Defence Secretary said that spending will be increased for those in the British Army that are on a low salary, raising their incomes to a 'living wage', while arguing that higher financial compensation is needed for service personnel injured in combat.

Mordaunt addressed the burgeoning cyber threat faced by NATO, noting the 60% increase in cyber threats faced by the alliance between 2016 and 2017, and remarked that cyber attacks - along with aggression conducted by proxy actors - will continue to increase and are now the 'new normal'.
