A rapid procurement project to replace the electro-optical (EO) infrared sensor turrets on five UK military aircraft and helicopter types worth up to GBP100 million (USD126 million) is to receive the go-ahead "within weeks".
The major refresh of the sensor turrets on UK Royal Air Force, Army Air Corps, and Royal Navy manned aerial surveillance platforms is to be signed off in early June, a senior UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) source told Jane's on 27 May.
The existing sensor turrets on the Chinook HC4/5/6, Merlin HC3/4 and HM2, Beechcraft Shadow R1, and Britten-Norman Defender AL2 will then be progressively replaced over the next five years.
