The Russian Air Force is to acquire 76 Su-57 fifth generation multi-role aircraft and 100 modernised Mi-28N helicopters, designated Mi-28NM, by 2028, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a meeting on defence-related issues held in Sochi on 15 May. He also reported that over 1,000 new fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft were delivered to the Russian forces from 2013–18, resulting in modern aircraft accounting for over 65% of the current fleet.

During the meeting, Putin stated, “The [state] armament programme plan was to procure 16 such aircraft by 2028”, but after further assessment, Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu reported to him that manufacturers had managed to reduce the cost of both the aircraft and accompanying weapon systems by 20%.
