China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) has confirmed that it is considering potential investment in shipyards in Croatia.
The state-owned Chinese group said in a statement on 14 May that it plans to carry out an “in-depth study” into the possible investments. CSIC identified two targets, both owned by the Uljanik shipbuilding group.
These comprise Uljanik’s 3 Maj shipyard in Rijeka, Croatia’s principal seaport located on Kvarner Bay, and a shipyard in Pula, which is situated in the southwest of the Istrian peninsula. CSIC confirmed that company officials have twice visited the shipyards in recent weeks.
During visits to the country, CSIC said its officials had also held talks about its potential investment in the country with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković.
