A man who was purportedly captured when his aircraft was shot down by the Libyan National Army (LNA) faction during the recent fighting around Tripoli has been identified as a Portuguese national.
In a video released by his captors on 7 May, the man spoke in English to identify himself as 29-year-old Portuguese national Jimmy Rees, who was working in Libya as a civilian contractor. "I was requested to destroy the roads and bridges," he said when asked what he was doing in Libya.
His captors said he was flying a Mirage F1 when he was hit but he did not confirm this.
