Raytheon will integrate Kongsberg's Naval Strike Missile (NSM) into the US Marine Corps' (USMC's) existing force structure under an Other Transaction Authority (OTA) agreement with the Marine Corps Systems Command, the company announced on 7 May.
The aim of the OTA is to integrate and demonstrate the NSM capability on a ground vehicle, with integration expected to take place over the next two to three years, a USMC spokesperson confirmed to Jane's. A USMC NSM supports the 2018 National Defense Strategy and Commandant of the USMC modernisation efforts.
Kongsberg originally developed the NSM to meet the Royal Norwegian Navy's requirements for a highly discriminative, low-observable surface-to-surface guided weapon able to penetrate shipboard defences and operate effectively in blue-water and littoral environments.
