Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) – Japan’s second biggest defence manufacturer – posted overall gains in fiscal year 2018 (FY18) but defence-related performance was mixed, financial data published by the company on 25 April showed.
KHI said its net sales for the year up to 31 March were JPY1.595 billion (USD14.1 billion), a year-on-year (y/y) increase of 1%, while operating income, or earnings before interest and taxes, increased 14% to JPY64 billion. Net income attributable to shareholders declined 5% to JPY27.4 billion compared to a year earlier.
KHI’s two defence-related business units both reported y/y declines in net sales but gains in earnings.
