Sweden’s new signals intelligence (SIGINT) vessel was launched from the Nauta Shiprepair Yard in Gdynia, Poland, on 17 April.

To be named HMS Artemis , the ship is to replace the Royal Swedish Navy’s (RSwN’s) current intelligence-gathering vessel HMS Orion , which entered service in 1984.

Saab’s business area Kockums was awarded an SEK730 million contract in April 2017 by Sweden’s Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) to design and build the new SIGINT ship. Saab subsequently selected Nauta Shiprepair Yard, part of the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ), to build, outfit, and trial the basic platform ahead of delivery to Sweden.

First steel cutting for Artemis took place in March 2018, followed by the keel-laying three months later.
