Japan, Philippines commit to further defence co-operation

17 April 2019

Japanese Defence Minister Takeshi Iwaya and his Philippine counterpart Delfin Lorenzana agreed on 17 April to broaden defence co-operation between their two countries, especially in the area of defence equipment.

Japan has already donated defence equipment to the Philippines, including thousands of spare parts for Bell UH-1H helicopters, five Beechcraft TC-90 King Air advanced trainer aircraft, and 10 multirole response vessels.

A spokesperson for the Japanese Ministry of Defense’s (MoD’s) Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency (ATLA) told Jane’s that the first tranche of spare parts for the UH-1Hs were handed over to the Philippine Air Force in March 2019, with the remaining items set to be delivered later this year.
