A three-member Indian Navy (IN) aircrew escaped unharmed after they were forced to ditch their Chetak (Aérospatiale Alouette III) helicopter in the Arabian Sea when the platform encountered technical problems, according to an IN statement issued on 16 April.
IN spokesperson Captain D K Sharma said that the incident took place "last week" but declined to provide further details for security reasons.
He also declined to identify the ship on which the ditched helicopter was based.
In its statement the IN said the helicopter suffered "technical failure prior to its ditching" but that its crew displayed "immense professional prowess and sound training" by landing the helicopter in the water and successfully exiting from it.
