The UK Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) Technology Office issued a contract notice on 14 April to procure FLIR Black Hornet Personal Reconnaissance Systems (PRSs) to be delivered immediately to support experimentation.
According to the notice the GBP1.3 million (USD 1.7 million)contract is for the purchase of 30 FLIR Black Hornet PRSs to be used for research and development into a nano-unmanned aircraft system (UAS) capability gap identified by the BritishArmy.
During Exercise 'Autonomous Warrior' (Land), the army identified the need for a closer look at nano-UAS capabilities for its units, and what nano-UASs can bring to the modern battlefield, the DE&S told Jane's.
