Serial production of the Almaz-Antey 50R6 S-350 Vityaz medium-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) system has begun after successful certification tests were completed last month, according to the Russian Ministry of Defence.
This opens the way for delivery of the first unit set of equipment to the Russian Aerospace Force (RuAF) later this year to begin replacing its 1980s-vintage S-300PS (NATO codename SA-10 ‘Grumble’) weapon systems.
“The successful launches carried out on 26 March completed the government certification tests of the new S-350 Vityaz air defence system, expected to replace the S-300PS. Simultaneously the manufacturing of the first serial set has begun.
