Taiwan outlines defence spending plans

Taiwan has outlined an intention to increase national spending on defence to more than TWD400 billion (USD13 billion) by 2027. Spending in 2019, by comparison, is about TWD346 billion.

Chen Chung-chi, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense (MND), said in comments to the state-run Central News Agency (CNA) on 14 April that government has finalised a plan to incrementally increase the military budget over the coming eight years, with the aim to spend TWD405 billion on defence by 2027.

According to Chen, the government will look to increase defence spending at a rate of at least 2% a year over the coming decade.
