The Finnish Ministry of Defence (MoD) has revealed that it has signed up to take part in the European Defence Agency’s (EDA’s) Hybrid Drive Trains (HybriDT) for military purposes research programme.

The programme, part of the EDA’s CapTech Ground Systems (Land) research work, will focus on the suitability of hybrid technologies for military vehicles. Although not aiming to develop a new device, the MoD said the research will be examining the requirements of military users of the technology.

The project is being led by Germany, with other participating countries including Austria, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Sweden.

Finland’s participation will be led by national defence company Patria, with its Land Systems division having extensive experience in manufacturing and developing armoured vehicles and drivetrains.
