The budget committee of the Bundestag, the German parliament, on 11 April approved the procurement of three Airbus A350-900 aircraft for EUR1.2 billion (USD1.4 billion) for the Ministry of Defence's (MoD's) ready air transport service.
The aircraft will be ordered this month, the MoD said on its website. In addition to the three aircraft, the order will cover equipping them( including with a self-defence system), as well as spare parts, maintenance tools, and initial training of crews.
The first aircraft is scheduled to be delivered in mid-2020, followed by the two others in 2022, replacing the current two A340-300 operated by the MoD's flight readiness service.
