(Rheinmetall)The Bundeswehr placed an order with Rheinmetall for 32,000 DM121 155 mm high explosive artillery shells for the Panzerhaubitze (PzH) 2000 self-propelled howitzer, the German company announced in a press release on 8 April.

The order is worth EUR109 million (USD122.8 million) and includes an option for another 11,000 shells for an additional EUR37 million.

The rounds will be produced by Rheinmetall Waffe Munition in Unterlüß, northern Germany, with deliveries scheduled to begin this year.

The order follows approval of the necessary funding by the budget committee of the Bundestag, the German parliament, on 20 March.

The DM121 shell is designed for use against soft and semi-hard area targets and infrastructure deep in the battlefield, according to the Bundeswehr.
