Two South Korean defence companies have launched projects in conjunction with Philippine state-run armament manufacturer Government Arsenal (GA) to construct defence production factories in the Southeast Asian country.
South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Programme Administration (DAPA) said Samyang Comtech and Boo Heung Precision Machinery held a ceremony with GA to start construction of the factories on 5 April.
Both facilities are being established in Bataan, 60 km west of Manila, and will be positioned to meet military requirements in the Philippines and regional markets. Samyang’s jointly run factory will produce composite-based armour products including bulletproof vests and helmets, while Boo Heung’s facility with GA will produce sets of ammunition.
