NVLS launches QuadEye panoramic NVGs

Night Vision Lasers Spain (NVLS) used the Special Operations Forces Innovation Network Seminar (SOFINS) to launch its QuadEye panoramic night-vision goggles (NVGs), designed to enhance the situational awareness of special operations forces (SOF) during low- and zero-light operations.

Comprising a series of four separate and sequential night-vision tubes, manufactured by Photonis and available in 16 mm and 18 mm sizes, QuadEye NVGs have been designed as a direct competitor to L3's Ground Panoramic NVGs (GPNVGs) that are in service with NATO SOF.

Speaking to Jane's , Martin Snijders, marketing communication manager at Photonis, said QuadEye is being tested by undisclosed 'Tier 1 SOF operators', although he was unable to provide further details due to operational security concerns.

Manufactured with a magnesium alloy to harden the NVGs and reduce weight to lessen neck strain associated with longer missions and enhance operator mobility, QuadEye provides high levels of protection against impact as well as extreme high and low temperatures, Snijders added.

Additionally, he said QuadEye can resist water absorption and potentially be submerged to 10 m.

Weighing less than 700 g, QuadEye NVGs provide operators with a maximum field-of-view up to 104°, as well as laser viability above 900 nm. Operating between 350 and 1,100 nm spectral ranges, QuadEye NVGs can be used for detection, recognition, and identification of objects of interest. The NVGs also include an infrared illuminator operating at 950 nm.

QuadEye is available with a white phosphor sight picture, Photonis officials added, providing operators with improved contrast levels and less eye strain in comparison with the green phosphor systems used during operations in low- and zero-light conditions.
