The Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) received its first serial production Ilyushin Il-76MD-90A airlifter on 2 April, an aerospace industry source has told Jane's.
"The first serial production Il-76MD-90A, factory number 0109, has already been delivered to the customer. The second serial production aircraft of the type, factory number 0110, is completing its flight tests and will be handed over soon," the source said on 2 April. "The Ilyushin Company is to deliver a total of six Il-76MD-90As to the MoD this year."
Ilyushin delivered two prototype airlifters to the MoD in December 2015 and January 2016, respectively. "Deliveries of the aircraft had temporarily halted since 2016," said the source. In 2018, the company was to hand over three Il-76MD-90As, but the enterprise failed to meet this objective. "A special external committee has been established to handle this case," he added.
