The United States has delivered six ScanEagle unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) as part of a military assistance programme, the US Embassy in Beirut announced on 2 April.

The LAF confirmed the delivery the following day, reporting that the six UAVs, worth about USD11 million, had been delivered to Beirut’s Rafik Hariri International Airport.

The ScanEagle acquisition was one of three ‘Building Partner Capability’ programmes that US officials announced for Lebanon in December 2017. The other two covered six MD 530G light attack helicopters valued at USD94 million and improving the LAF’s joint fire support and close air support capabilities through the delivery of communications equipment, electronics equipment, night vision devices, and training valued at more than USD16 million.
