Questions remain over whether US will cut foreign military training for Northern Triangle forces

US President Donald Trump has announced plans to cut aid to El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras; however, questions remain over just what effect this will have on the training of these military forces.

In late March, Trump announced his intent to cut off funding to the three Central American countries due to the influx of refugees into the US. As of 2 April, the Pentagon declined to specify what this would mean for the relationship between Washington and these nations when it comes to providing financial support for training their militaries, and referred questions to the White House. A White House spokesperson also did not detail plans for these dollars and told Jane’s , “We’re constantly evaluating our foreign aid throughout the world.”
