India is in advanced negotiations with the US to conclude an Industrial Security Annex (ISA) agreement that will allow the US government and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to share classified technological information and data with private Indian companies.
Industry sources told Jane’s on 27 March that the US recently submitted a draft ISA pact to India’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) and is now awaiting a response before fast-tracking and concluding negotiations later this year.
Military planners in New Delhi said the ISA agreement would further the MoD’s ‘Make in India’ initiative to reduce materiel imports by involving private companies in the manufacture of assorted equipment such as combat aircraft, helicopters, submarines, and armoured vehicles.
