A total of 99 Russian military personnel landed at the Simón Bolívar Airport near Caracas, Venezuela, on 23 March to support Russian equipment used by Venezuela.
The state-owned Russian news outlet, Ria Novosti, reported that a diplomatic source on 24 March stated, “Russia has a number of contracts [with Venezuela] that are under implementation, including contracts for military-technical cooperation.”
It added that upon arrival, the personnel were met by Marianni Mata, the head of the Venezuelan International Cooperation and Integration Department, as well as Edgar Colina Reyes, the head of the country’s special forces police, and staff from the Russian embassy in Caracas.
