The United States has contracted General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc (GA-ASI) to build four MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF).
The USD123.3 million contract covers the Exportable Block 5 variant of the MQ-9, and comes about eight months after the government-to-government agreement for the procurement was signed by representatives from the Netherlands and US at the 2018 Farnborough International Airshow in the UK.
As noted in the contract notification the award comprises four air vehicles, four mobile ground-control stations, spares, and support equipment. Work will be complete by 31 December 2020.
The awarding of the contract follows an announcement in September 2018 that the RNLAF is to assign 306 Squadron at Leeuwarden Air Base to operate its Reapers.
