The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) is committing another GBP30 million (USD40 million) in funding to accelerate the development of battlefield apps, Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson announced on 11 March.
The project for innovative application and software design, known as Platform for Rapid Exploitation of Digital Applications (PREDA), is part of the MoD's GBP160 million transformation fund. PREDA aims to fast-track the development of application software for the UK armed forces and boost the rapid adaptation of state-of-the-art technology for front-line troops.
The new approach is intended to enable defence specialists to rapidly develop tailored applications to meet an operational command's requirements while maintaining a secure network.
