Australian shipyard ASC has completed the keel of the first Arafura-class offshore patrol vessel (OPV), the country's Minister of Defence, Christopher Pyne, announced on 21 March.
The keel, which consists of more than 50 tonnes of steel, was constructed at ASC's Osborne Naval Shipyard. Construction work thus far is on time and on budget, said Pyne, adding that the milestone further demonstrates the Australian defence industry's ability to deliver such projects on schedule.
