The Philippines Department of National Defence (DND) has outlined a commitment to introduce additional reforms to improve the country's military procurement processes.
The DND said the emphasis of new measures will be to enhance transparency and to enable acquisitions to be more responsive to the requirements of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). Additional focus will also be on centralising the administration of procurement projects.
Defence Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said in a statement on 19 March that the aim is to establish a "seamless, trouble-free procurement process".
In comments to a defence procurement forum in Manila, he added, "We will make the procurement process fair and we will see to it that corruption [is] eliminated.
