The Indian Army launched a 10-day training exercise with 17 African states on 18 March in a bid to expand its military and strategic reach across Africa.
Officials said the inaugural 'Africa-India Filed Training Exercise - 2019' ('AFINDEX-19'), which was conducted at Pune, western India, from 18-27 March, was focused on providing participants with instruction in demining procedures and UN peacekeeping operations.
Officials said India's principal endeavour in 'AFINDEX-19' is to counter China's growing strategic influence across Africa to secure contracts for hydrocarbons and assorted vital minerals.
