Mack Defense has started production of M917A3 Heavy Dump Trucks (HDTs) for US Army testing.
The company recently announced that, as part of a USD296 million contract with the US Army, it is manufacturing five M917A3 HDTs that it will deliver to the service between June and September. The HDTs will then be put through 40 weeks of production verification tests.
In 2017 the army launched a competition to find the next generation of M917 vehicles that would offer increased protection levels, enhanced mobility, and a higher payload. In 2018 Mack Defense secured the contract with its M917A3 bid.
Under the contract Mack Defense will produce armour-capable or armoured HDTs for the service through to May 2025.
