The Força Aérea Portuguesa (Portuguese Air Force, FAP) formally took delivery of its first two AW119Kx Koala single-engine light utility helicopters on 18 February.
Five helicopters worth EUR20.49 million (USD23.16 million) were ordered from Leonardo on 27 December 2017 to replace the Alouette III. Portugal's court of auditors authorised the contract's entry into force on 18 July 2018.
Deliveries are due to be completed in early 2020, the FAP told Jane's.
The helicopters were handed over to Squadron 552 'Zangões', currently operating from Air Base No 11 in Beja, with a permanent detachment at Manoeuvre Airfield No 1 in Maceda-Ovar.
