Canada receives first surplus Hornets from Australia

19 February 2019

Canada has received the first of 18 surplus Boeing F/A-18A/B Hornet combat aircraft from Australia, the Department of National Defence (DND) announced on 17 February.

The pair of single-seat F/A-18As arrived at Cold Lake in Alberta on the same day as the announcement, for use by the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) to help bolster its CF-18 Hornet fleet.

"These aircraft are the same type as Canada's current CF-18 fleet and can be integrated quickly into our fleet. Modifications and technical work will begin immediately so they can be brought to a similar configuration to Canada's CF-18 aircraft," the DND said.
