Australia’s Department of Defence (DoD) has issued a limited request for tender to Raytheon Australia to supply Aegis combat system integration support for up to six years, Australian Defence Minister Christopher Pyne announced on 15 February.
Under the limited tender, Raytheon Australia has been requested to establish a deed of standing offer through which it will provide the services. The agreement, which, subject to successful negotiations, is expected to be in effect by mid-2019, positions Raytheon Australia as the ‘Australian Aegis Systems Integration Agent’, said Pyne.
Pyne also confirmed that the tender enables Raytheon Australia to fit the Aegis system onto the Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN’s) new Hunter-class frigates, which will be built by BAE Systems under the Sea 5000 programme in partnership with Australian shipbuilder ASC.
