TRS-4D radar on order for new K 130 corvettes

13 February 2019

German systems and sensors house Hensoldt has been contracted to provide the rotating version of its TRS-4D G-band active electronically scanned array (AESA) multifunction air/surface surveillance radar for the German Navy's second batch of five K 130 corvettes.

The move marks a significant enhancement on the first batch of K 130 ships, which were equipped with the earlier TRS-3D/16 multimode pencil beam radar.

Hensoldt will supply a total of seven TRS-4D radars, plus a similar number of MSSR 2000 I identification friend-or-foe (IFF) systems, under a contract placed by the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology, and In-Service Support (BAAINBw).
