Canada awards contracts for R&D to beef up Arctic surveillance

The Canadian Department of National Defence (DND) has awarded two contracts for a total of CAN46.2 million (USD34.9 million) to Raytheon Canada Limited and the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies’ Space Flight Lab (UTIAS SFL) under the All Domain Situational Awareness (ADSA) Science and Technology (S&T) programme.

The initiative aims to produce innovative solutions to surveillance challenges facing the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), particularly in the High North.

Raytheon Canada has been awarded USD23.6 million for the construction of a radar site to demonstrate the feasibility of Arctic radar technology for over-the-horizon detection at long range.
