Saudi Arabian defence conglomerate Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) has launched joint ventures (JVs) with two European defence companies at an event to mark the launch of the country’s National Industrial Development and Logistics Programme (NIDLP).
Under the JVs, announced on 28 January, Belgian firm CMI Defence and French firm Thales will each establish a JV with SAMI to develop the country’s defence-industrial and technology capabilities in the future.
According to SAMI, the JV with CMI Defence will “develop and provide modern and highly capable turrets and weapon systems for armoured vehicles” that will enable cutting-edge technology and overmatch capabilities to the Kingdom’s armoured fighting vehicles.
