UK MoD funds domestic space antenna investment

29 January 2019

The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced an investment of GBP1 million (USD1.3 million) in Oxford Space Systems’ (OSS’s) development of a new generation of deployable satellite antennas.

This funding will allow OSS to increase the size of the wrapped rib antenna and improve the antenna’s performance to enable it to be used in support of defence applications.

The system is lighter than other available systems so is more easily deployed into space, while greater cost efficiency makes it appealing in what the MoD deems to be a costly industry.

The development is being funded under the UK government’s Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) innovation support body, in collaboration with the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory and the Defence Innovation Fund.
