FLIR Systems has announced the acquisition of Aeryon Labs for USD200 million, further expanding its presence in the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) platform market.
The Oregon-based sensor manufacturer will now incorporate Aeryon’s technologies, including vertical take-off and landing quadcopters such as the SkyRanger system into its offerings, which already incorporate FLIR’s thermal sensing payloads.
Aeryon develops sub-20 lb UAVs that are used by militaries in 30 countries, and the company is headquartered in Waterloo, Canada, but also has offices in Denver and Salt Lake City in the US.
It also provides embedded software, ground control stations, sensors, flight operations software, and support services for this customer base, which includes the US Department of Defense.
