Harris has been awarded a USD75 million US Marine Corps (USMC) contract to upgrade the Falcon III AN/PRC-117G manpack radio fleet with the Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) waveform.
The contract, announced on 14 January, follows a similar buy in late 2017 to upgrade about 1,000 USMC Harris Falcon III AN/PRC-117G multiband manpack radios with the MUOS waveform.
The updated software will provide the radios with the ability to access the MUOS satellite system. The MUOS is a government-owned waveform that provides mobile phone-like communications down to the brigade combat team (BCT) and platoon levels, and extends company data and voice Soldier Radio Waveform networks.
