In a ceremony on 13 January, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the establishment of a BMC production and technology base in the northwestern Turkish province of Sakarya.
The site will produce Altay main battle tanks (MBTs), military and commercial vehicles, and engines of various platforms.
Development of the first 100,000 m² of the 2.2 million m² site is planned to be completed by the end of 2019, with the facility expected to be fully operational by 2023.
President Erdogan said an investment amounting to USD500 million will be made in the new BMC facility once all the phases are completed.
