The US Air Force (USAF) recently awarded Northrop Grumman a contract for Litening advanced targeting pod sustainment, production, software, and upgrades.
The award is an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (ID/IQ) contract potentially worth USD1.3 billion, according to a company statement. Company spokesperson Stephen Lamb said on 11 January that the deal covers work through 2022 and that specific terms will vary according to task orders.
Litening includes a suite of high-resolution sensors and a data link for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) and target acquisition. Lamb said various pod upgrades, including enhanced sensors, additional data link communications, and reliability improvements, are available to customers through this contract.
