US Army’s ASA (ALT) shop examining AI management questions

At a time when the Pentagon is grappling with the ethics and potential role that artificial intelligence (AI) will have on the battlefield, the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology (ASA [ALT]) is looking at how to approach this from a managerial perspective.

During a 10 January Defense Writer’s Group breakfast, the assistant secretary of the army for ASA (ATL), Bruce Jette, explained that while the Army Futures Command is working the “requirements and research” portion of AI, his shop is establishing the “managerial approach” that will better organise the technology for combat.
